Concealer Review Part 6- Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer Review, Full Analysis + Swatch in Vanilla and Custard

Heyyyy Beautiesssss

Nars Cosmetics have a range of concealer called the ‘Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer’ and today, I am going to be fully analyzing and reviewing the product. As always with my concealer posts, I am going to go over main headings including applicator quality, available shades, Consistency/Coverage/Best Applied With, Shelf Life/Amount, Lasting Power and Wear Test,Chemical (Formula) Analysis, Marketing Analysis, an Overall Review and Main Points/Summary, along with Where To Buy links.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

Before I start, you can get mini versions of the Nars concealer from Mecca, I will include information about the mini version too.

Applicator Quality

img_7029

The Applicator in the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is really nice. It is a nice doe-foot applicator that is nice and soft and disperses product onto the face really precisely and evenly  I will say, it is an average sized doe-foot applicator and I would like it to be a bit fluffier and bigger (like the Tarte Shade Tape Concealer Applicator) because you may have to dip into the concealer twice, whereas if it was a bit fluffier, you wouldn’t have to dip back in for more product.

Available Shades/Shade Range

The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer comes in 16 shades. These shades range from pales, to mediums, to tan and darks. I think the shade range is pretty good- it could include some more dark shades- but there should be a shade available to each skin type.

This is only the normal size concealer shade range, the mini concealers are only available in limited shades (they may start to come out with more shades in the future).

Consistency/Coverage/Best Applied With

The Consistency of the Nars Creamy Concealer is very thick and creamy (as you can see in the swatches above). The Coverage of the concealer is medium to full buildable, and can be built up so easily to provide full coverage.

The concealer is best applied with a Beauty Blender or Flat Kabuki Foundation Brush to buff the product in and give a nice coverage.

Shelf Life/Amount

img_8788

The Shelf Life of the Nars Creamy Concealer is 24 months, meaning you get a whole 2 years to use the product before it becomes susceptible to rancidity and microorganism growth.

The mini concealers contain 1.4 ml (0.05 ounces) of product, and the normal sized concealers contain 6 ml (0.22) ounces of product.

The mini ones are really small compared to the big ones and I doubt you will get that much use out of it , but it’s good when you haven’t tried the concealer and you want to test it before you buy the normal sized one.

Lasting Power/Wear Test

To test the lasting power and wear of the product, I checked my face in the mirror and described what I saw 4 times in 2 hour intervals, equaling 8-hours of wear.

Wear Test with Time Intervals

img_8423-1

Time Applied- 12.40 PM

Thoughts Upon Application- The concealer is very creamy and easy to blend. The applicator is nice and delivers precise application. The coverage is medium and can be built up to full coverage easily. I really like the coverage and finish of the concealer.

First Check In- 2.40 PMtwo hours later– The concealer is still fully on and is still full coverage. There is hardly any creasing or settling and the finish is still beautiful and is making my skin look nice. After 2 hours, the concealer has worn and lasted very good.

Second Check In- 4.40 PM- four hours later– After four hours, the product is still fully on and hasn’t worn off. The coverage is still high and there is only a tiny tiny bit of creasing that you can hardly see. The finish is still really nice and it still looks good after 4 hours.

Third Check In- 6.40 PMsix hours later– Again, the concealer is still fully on and hasn’t worn off despite it being hot where I am. The coverage is still full coverage and there is hardly any more creasing or settling. All in all, it has worn really good after 6 hours

img_8789

Fourth Check In- 8.40 PMeight hours later– None of the concealer has worn off and the coverage is still full. There is hardly any creasing or settling and it still looks really good after 8 hours.

Lasting Power/Wear Test Conclusion

The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer passed both my 8-hour lasting power test and 8-hour wear test. The concealer stayed on my face with hardly any rub off for a full 8-hours and the coverage stayed the same throughout the day. The concealer wore good on my face, with hardly any noticeable creasing or settling. All in all, the concealer has a long lasting power and wears really good.

Passed 8-hour lasting power test? Yes    Passed 8-hour wear test? Yes

Chemical (Formula) Analysis

The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer has 35 ingredients in the formula and is ranked by the Cosmetic Analysis Database as a ‘Recommended/Good’ formula. The Cosmetic Analysis Database ranks all individual chemicals into 5 categories based on safety and functioning – highly recommended, recommended, average, not recommended and to be avoided- and returns an overall formula reading based on this.

img_8801
Formula Ranking of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. Note- Many formulas return an ‘Average’ ranking so Nars has an advantage in that it returns a ‘Good’ formula ranking

img_7214

The ‘Good/Recommended’ formula ranking of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is a result of 2 highly recommended chemicals, 22 recommended chemicals, 6 average chemicals, 5 not recommended chemicals and NO to be avoided chemicals. The Nars concealer formula is made up of mostly really good, high quality ingredients and this is one of the best formulas I have seen so far in my research because it contains a lot of recommended chemicals and hardly any not recommended chemicals.

The two highly recommended chemicals in the formula are Tocopheryl and Lecithin. Tocopheryl acts as a skin conditioning and antioxidant agent in the formula and has beneficial characteristics including preventing infection, promoting wound healing, smoothing the skin, improving skin moisture, removing small wrinkles, keeping the skin in good condition and preventing rancidity and oxidation of products.

img_8788

Lecithin has multiple purposes in the formula including acting as an anti static, emollient, emulsifying and skin conditioning agent. It has multiple benefits such as binding moisture, softening and smoothing the skin and maintaining the skin in good condition.

Other beneficial ingredients in the formula include Hydrogenated Polydecene which softens and smooths the skin, Butylene Glycol and Polysilicone-2 which holds and retains moisture, Aluminium Hydroxide which reduces irritation, holds and retains moisture and softens and smooths the skin, Silica which helps wound healing and stops itching, Magnolia Officialis Bark Extract and Vitis Vinifera Vine Extract which maintains the skin in good condition and Maltodextrin which helps with moisture retention and maintains the skin in good condition.

img_8803
Ingredient Analysis Ranking of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer Formula. Take Note of the Formula Spreading Chart- Red represents Not Recommended Ingredients, Yellow Represents the Average Ingredients and the Green Represents the Good Ingredients. The concealer consists of mostly good ingredients.

Other than that, the formula is paraben-free and the Preservative Chemicals used are Phenoxyethanol and Sodium Metabisulfite. Overall, the formula of the Nars Creamy Concealer formula is really good and contains high quality ingredients, which correlates with it’s $41.00 AUD price tag.

Marketing vs Chemical + Physical Analysis

Is this product marketed properly?

img_8789

To assess the accuracy of marketing, I looked up how Nars markets the creamy concealer and then made up questions to assess the accuracy of the claims they make.  Nars describes the Radiant Creamy Concealer as……

“Coveted by artists for its luxurious texture and luminous finish, new Radiant Creamy Concealer evens skin with lightweight medium to high buildable coverage. Enriched with hydrating, multi-action skincare benefits and light diffusing technology, it creates a softer, smoother complexion while instantly obscuring imperfections and diminishing fine lines and signs of fatigue”. They also add the following points as benefits.

“Long wearing and crease-proof. Paraben-free, Alcohol free, Synthetic fragrance free, Non comedogenic”

Questions I Have After Reading Marketing

img_8424-1

Is the formula enriched with hydrating, multi-acting ingredients that have skincare benefits??

The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer formula contains 7 moisturizing ingredients, including Tocopheryl, Lecithin, Butylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Polysilicone-2, Aluminium Hydroxide and Maltodextrin. I have included the benefits and characteristics these chemicals have above in the chemical analysis section, but in short, they all have moisturizing and smoothing benefits that help the skin to stay moisturized. These chemicals also have other benefits for the skin, meaning they are offer multi-purpose benefits. The formula also contains chemicals that soften and smooth the skin and leave it in good condition. This means that Nars have accurately marketed the moisturizing and skincare benefits claim of the formula correctly.

Does the concealer have a lightweight, medium to full buildable coverage??

The product does feel lightweight and even though the consistency is nice and creamy and thick, the product does feel lightweight. The coverage is medium to full buildable, so Nars have marketed this claim correctly.

Is the concealer long wearing and crease-proof?

The lasting power of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is long wearing, and passed my 8-hour lasting power test, meaning Nars have marketed the concealer as long wearing accurately.

img_8424-1

As I said in my lasting power/wear test, the concealer wore so good throughout the day with minimal creasing or settling. However, to market a concealer as ‘crease proof’, when so many people have different experiences with concealers and different people have different problems with concealers, and different skin, I wouldn’t be comfortable saying it’s completely crease proof at all. When companies market a concealer as fully crease proof I never take this for face value, even though it didn’t crease much on me, I would say this claim is a little far off.

Is the formula paraben free? Is the formula noncomedogenic, aka, does it contain any ingredients that promote comedone formation?

The formula is paraben-free and Phenoxyethanol and Sodium Metabisulfite are used as preservative chemicals instead, meaning Nars have marketed the paraben-free claim correctly.

The concealer contains no chemicals that promote comedone formation. Comedone formation refers to the formation of blocked pores that lead to blackhead and whitehead formation on the skin. Chemicals that promote comedone formation contribute to the blocking of pores. To market a product as ‘noncomedogenic’, the formula must contain no chemicals that promote comedone formation. Unlike the Kat Von D Concealer which is marketed as noncomedogenic but contained a chemical that does promote it, the Nars Creamy Concealer contains no chemicals that promote comedone formation, meaning this claim is marketed correctly by Nars.

Marketing Accuracy Conclusion

All in all, Nars have accurately marketed the concealer and all claims are correct. They have not straight up lied about anything to sell the product and the only claim I didn’t fully agree with was the ‘crease proof’ claim, even though during the wear test I didn’t get any creasing, this might be different for other people which is why I don’t think that the concealer will be fully crease proof on everybody. Other than that, though, marketing is accurate.

Overall Review of Nars Creamy Concealer

img_7214

The Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer comes with a beautiful doe-foot applicator that applies the product super easily and precisely. There are 16 shades in the shade range, which includes pale, medium, tan and dark shades. The consistency of the concealer is creamy and thick and the coverage is medium to buildable full. It is best applied with a flat kabuki brush or Beauty Blender to pack the product into the skin.

The shelf life of the product is 24 months (2 years) which is a really good length for a product to have and the normal sized version of the concealer comes with 6 ml (0.22 ounces) of product and the mini sized version comes with 1.4 ml (0.05 ounces) of product.

The Nars Creamy Concealer has a long lasting power and good wear, and passed both my 8-hour lasting power and wear tests. The formula contains high quality ingredients and is ranked by the Cosmetic Analysis Database as a Good/Recommended formula. The marketing is accurate, and all claims are true.

All in all, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is an extremely good product, and I recommend it

My Concealer Review/Analysis Ranking List

1• Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

2• Kat Von D Lock It Concealer Creme

3• Urban Decay Naked Weightless Concealer

4• Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

5• Too Faced Born This Way Concealer

6• LA Girl HD Pro Concealer

I like the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer better than the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer and LA Girl HD Pro Concealer but not better than the Urban Decay Naked Weightless Concealer, Kat Von D Lock It Concealer Creme or Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. This is just because I feel that they have a slightly better coverage than the Nars Creamy Concealer, but the Nars Concealer is still really good and it was hard to rank it compared to the others.
