Urban Decay Heat Palette Description/Review

UrbanDecayNakedddHeatPaletteNewPic25ed

The Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette is the NEWEST naked palette by Urban Decay and is the first palette released into the Naked Line in years, which has led to a lot of hype! It contains 12 eyeshadows- 5 shimmer shades and 7 matte shades. Each shade contains 1.3 grams (0.05 ounces) of product, giving the palette a total of 15.6 grams (0.6 ounces) of product. The palette has a shelf life of 24 months, is assembled in the Dominican Republic and is made in the USA.

The packaging is very, very nice. It is soooo sturdy and you can tell it is made of high quality materials. The palette reminds me of a hard case and it just feels very put together. The design is obviously centered around the heat/fire theme, and there are matchboxes decorating the outer packaging and brown/red color vibes.  I have to say, Urban Decay have STEPPED up in regards to their packaging.

The formula is high quality and both the matte and shimmer shades work amazing on the eye. They all blend-out and apply extremely well, are pigmented and are true to color (aka, they come up the same on the eyes as they look in the pan and in arm swatches). Each shade is pigmented and I didn’t have any trouble with ANY of the shades in regards to them not being as opaque as I wanted. They all performed perfectly and each have good color pay-off.  You do have to slowly bit by bit build them up (especially the darker shades) because if you go in heavy straight away it can get messy because they are so pigmented, but this is no problem for me because building shadows up is my preferred method anyway.

The 12 eyeshadows are consistent across the palette, aka, they all work around about the same way, give or take a little. This is a good thing because it means there are no bad shadows in the palette and you can predict how they are going to perform. However, there are SLIGHT , slight differences between how some of them perform.

The first shimmer shade (Shade 1) has a slightly different consistency than the rest of the shimmers (it is softer and slightly more powdery) and at first I thought it was a satin shade (it is listed as Urban Decay as a shimmer though). The consistency of Shade 1 compliments the rest of the shade scheme because you can use it for multiple purposes (which would be harder if it was a full shimmer). For example, you can use it to prep the lids for further color, you can pack it up on the lid to create a light gold shimmery look and you can also dab it over the top of other shades on the lid to create a halo type effect, which I love and usually do all the time to brighten the lid.

The other shimmery shades have the consistency that is typical of most shimmery shades- they are powdery and flakey (not in a bad way), and have a bit of grit to them. They apply to the eyes very well and they can be used either wet or dry. Sometimes shimmer shades only POP when wet, but the shimmers in the Naked Heat also look really good dry, which is a big bonus.

The matte shades are also consistent across the palette and all work the same. In regards to the texture of the matte shades, the first few  feel slightly more soft and buttery whereas the mattes towards the end are a tiny bit drier and look like they have been pressed harder. You only notice this difference by touching the shadow (which I did when doing arm swatches) but all of they all work the exact same on the eye despite this difference in texture. I am extremely happy with the matte shades. They are a dream to work with and blend out and work exceptionally well with the shimmer shades, which is a MUST!

The color scheme of the Naked Heat Palette is nice if you like warm, neutral shades. If you HATE red-based, orange toned looks, this may not be the palette for you. You can create a few looks with this palette that are not warm/red toned, but the palette is made up of a majority of these shades and it can be hard to avoid them. For me, I really love the shade scheme in the palette but sometimes I do want to get away from the orange toned look.

My favourite thing about the palette is that there are 4 really good matte transition shades that can be used, as well as 2 other matte shades that I will use frequently in the crease over the transition shades (and alone in the crease). You then have 4 beautiful shimmery shades that can be worm with the matte shades, and mixed together to create different shades and looks.

As I mentioned, even though you can create a variety of different looks (I am in the process of writing a post showing you the different looks you can get out of the palette), there is only so much you can do with it which is typical of 12-pan eyeshadow palettes and is not limited to the Heat Palette. For example, if you were to buy the Morphe 350 palette, which is another neutral palette that contains 35 shades, you could create A LOTTTTTT more looks than you can with the Naked Heat Palette (and the Morphe palette is cheaper). You just have to really weigh up whether you are going to get good use out of this palette or if you would rather get an alternative palette with more options for half the price.

All in all, I am extremely happy with the Urban Decay Heat Palette. I wasn’t expecting to like it so much because the photos and online pictures don’t do it justice, it is such a beautiful palette in person. The packaging is extremely sturdy and you can tell that it isn’t made up of cheap, flimsy materials. The formula of all the eyeshadows is amazing and there is not ONE dud/bad shade in the palette. The Naked Heat Palette is deffo a winner in my eyes, you just have to decide if you are going to get the most out of it in regards to your preferences.

The Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette costs $83.00 AUD – $54.00 USD – and can be purchased from Mecca AU, Sephora USA and Urban Decay Online

As you can see, the price of the palette is pretty high when converted to AUD and other currencies like CAD, so you have to consider what your budget is vs what you are going to get for the price. If you are on a budget and want to get multiple DIFFERENT looks out of a palette for the least amount of money, I am not sure that I would recommend the Naked Heat Palette palette. I would however, recommend the Morphe 350 Palette if you like these type of shades but don’t want to splurge. The quality is the same and you get a LOT more shadows and can create a tonne more looks using the Morphe palette than you can the Heat palette… Here is a comparison picture….

I really liked reading your opinion of this product! I know a lot of people really liked this palette and saw that your opinion was extremely similar. One point that really set you apart is that you offered people a cheaper alternative. Morphe palettes are beautiful, and like you said offer many more shades. I do not think that they are the same quality, but if people are looking to save money and want more shades, it is a great alternative. Overall, this was a great review! While I am not going to personally going to purchase this product, it is mainly because I already have purchased too many palettes recently, aha! Great post love xxx
